Central Washington State Fair has Fun for the Whole Family

The State Fair in Yakima, Washington is held every year in late September until the beginning of October. It?s a fitting way for the family to spend the last of the warm weather of the year. By the time October rolls around out in Oregon things start to get pretty chilly.

When you come to the fair you can check out the classic ?Battle of the Bands? for free on the fairgrounds Budweiser stage. This stage offers up a lot of free entertainment for the fair visitors. There?s often a band playing in the evening or even the occasional musical. In 2006 the state fair hosted the musical, ?Forever Plaid.?

For the macho men there?s the State Fair Raceway and Grandstand. Usually in the early afternoon you?ll find such entertainment as the PRCA Rodeo, Sprint Car Races or the Demo Derby. It is possible to reserve seating at the Raceway and Grandstand ahead of time for a minimal fee, otherwise most shows are free and you have to fend for yourself when looking for seating.

Other attractions at this fair that will certainly entertain the kids are the Sea Lion Show and Brad?s World of Reptiles. Bring the little ones and pick a seat up front for a better chance at being picked as a volunteer in one of the hypnotist shows that can be found on the community stage.

When you get hungry its easy to find food in the SunDome, Grandstand, Pioneer Blvd., Canopy and Washington Blvd. The state fair is packed with food concessions, vendors and a few restaurants so take along some extra spending cash to splurge on carnival food.

You?ll be pleased to note that the state fairgrounds has accommodation for oversized vehicles such as Buses and other vehicles over 20 feet. There is an RV park on the grounds for those who want to bring their recreation vehicles and spend a couple of days at the fair. There are only 200 lots so get there early.
