The Burt Reynolds Museum in Jupiter
For a town as small as Jupiter, there are tons of interesting activities. Whether you prefer golf, fine dining, shopping, or the great outdoors, you will find your pleasure in this idyllic little community on the Treasure Coast.
Through a hilarious series of mistranslations, the Indian word ?Hobe? ended up as ?Jupiter? after the Roman God (which inspired the name of nearby ?Juno Beach"). Jupiter Beach is an old community ? the oldest building in Palm Beach County, The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, can be found here (built in 1860, you can take tours, and it is well worth a look for those who appreciate historic architecture). If you are in the mood for some scenic natural wonders, you have your choice of either the beach ? I would recommend the Blowing Rocks Preserve (though you can?t swim there), or the Loxahatchee River ? one of the few ?wild and scenic? rivers in the US today (as designated by the United States Wild and Scenic Commission, or USWSC). In the town of Jupiter, you will also find a variety of lodging opportunities, small shops, and little restaurants. However, the only thing in Jupiter that I think you need to see (as a matter of fact, I think it should be a mandatory field-trip for every schoolchild in Florida) is The Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum.
You may or may not be aware of this fact, but Burt Reynolds and Jupiter have been nearly synonymous since the dawn of time itself. The museum is dedicated to Burt and his friends, and features some of the best loved props from his most popular movies, including the car from Smokey and the Bandit, the helmet from The Longest Yard, and, yes, the canoe from Deliverance. There is also a fair amount of random Hollywood and professional sport memorabilia (e.g., Roy Rogers' saddle and an autographed Bobby Orr jersey).
Naturally, the only way to correctly see the Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum in Jupiter is with the help of Millenium Limo. The museum, I believe, requires some form of luxury vehicle before they let potential patrons enter, so you would do well to give Millenium a call. It?s the best way to reenact scenes from Smokey and the Bandit in Jupiter.
