Cripple Creek, Colorado has Gold Rush Charm
Gambling Anyone? This is a quaint little old west town that was hugh during the gold rush, gold was first discovered here in 1890. There were thousands of residents during that time. Then when the rush was over all the people left and it almost became a ghost town. Then in 1991 they allowed gambling in the town and it brought new life to the area.
Gambling anyone? ? there are only three towns in Colorado that are approved for high stakes gambling and this is a great old west town to hang out in. Don?t forget the blackjack, poker and slot machines.
This gambling is just as fun as going to Vegas but with a lot more old west charm. There is also shopping in quaint little shoppe?s, they also have railroad rides, a theater, live entertainment and plenty of restaurants. Don?t forget to visit the museums and antique shops. Of course if you are into camping or taking your RV on the road, there is no shortage of RV Parks. If you are into the outdoors there is plenty of hiking, rock climbing and rafting. Fall is coming and I bet the leaves will be spectacular at 9,464 feet above sea level. Then don?t forget the cross country skiing that winter is sure to bring.
Spend your time doing a driving tour of the gold mines. Take a tour on The Golden Loop Historic Parkway. You can follow the Trail of Gold 100 Years Long!
This is a trip back in time that is defiantly worth the trip it takes to get there on a little winding mountain road. If you are coming from Canon City, expect an hour drive going up?.but coming down it is much faster. It is about 45 miles from Colorado Springs.
