The Rocky Mountains Vacation
The adventurous types out there may be interested in heading out on a Rocky Mountains vacation on the next trip you take. The Rocky Mountains are a broad mountain range in the western part of North America. From the area it appears to be about two thirds of the way across the country from the Atlantic edge of the continent. It?s a very large mountain range to visit if you are trying to see the whole span and scope of the range as it extends from British Columbia in Canada down to New Mexico in the United States.
People love to travel to some of the many numerous National Parks on the mountain range, one of which is Rocky Mountain National Park. It is located in the north central Colorado. The park happens to be surrounded on all sides by other parks, Roosevelt National Forest, Routt National Forest, and Arapaho National Forest.
Take a look at the popular Beaver Meadows Visitor Center while seeing the park on your vacation. It is listed as National Historic Landmark and is special because it was designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright School.
The park is open year round, but due to the heavy snows in winter several roads will be closed. You may wish to rent a cabin or room when coming to visit in the wintertime. While there is winter camping you would be lots more comfortable in a nice toasty cabin. You can enter Rocky Mountain National Park via three roads, US Highway 34, 36 and the Colorado State Highway 7. Highway 34 will take you up over 12,000 feet in elevation on its way past Grand Lake, a smallish town frequented by tourists.
Overall some of the more impressive areas of the Rocky Mountains are above the Great Plains as the Front Range in Northern Colorado. However if you so desire you can see both Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains and Salt Lake in the Salt Lake City, Utah.
